PRJ-199 Custom Solution Curtain Wall with Structural Glass and Oversized Panels 3,5m X 7,5m

Custom systems were chosen for the facades during the renovation of the historical building located at 48 Rothschild St. Tel Aviv, Israel. The facade works undertaken by GLASSCON included the full engineering, procurement and installation of the new all glass frameless custom facade with oversized low iron units that covers the whole west façade. The glass units were fritted and supported top-bottom via bonded custom aluminium profiles. The slab was reinforced in locations to minimize the movements and deflections. Structural silicone was applied at the vertical glass direction.

The scope of GLASSCON included also motorized sliding windows with minimal frames at ground floor and penthouse area, skylights with smoke exhaust above the stair and elevator, double-leaf custom made glass doors with aluminium frame & door closer, interior & exterior custom glass parapets bottom supported without handrail.

The frit, silicone colour, glass edge quality and finishes were verified after samples’ submission during the design phase. At the initial design step, the volumes of the system and the design principle was visualized and studied further on a 3D printed model. Additionally, specific Israeli glass tests were curried out to confirm adequate glass quality and conformity with the local standards.

Material production and installation respected strict tolerances as requested by the design team and our client that were lower than the standards and therefore, GLASSCON followed strict quality control and quality assurance production and installation procedures.

Due to site limitation as the Site was located in the centre of Tel Aviv, adjacent to populated residential buildings and various businesses, the light rail site and in vicinity of pedestrian and vehicle areas GLASSCON’s operators had to work also during night shift and unpack and install the glass units, piece by piece, directly upon arrival.

The bespoke façade design was also verified structurally and aesthetically by executing a full scape Visual Mock-up (VMU) on Site and afterwards test the structural behaviour and performance (PMU) at an accredited European testing laboratory. The mock-up (4.7m x 7.2m) covered the size of two floors.
